Pre & Post Laser Guidlines

Pre-Treatment

Prior to your arrival for each laser hair removal treatment, we will ask that you follow a few simple instructions to make sure your results are as satisfying as possible.

First, please stay out of the sun for at least two weeks prior to treatment. A recent suntan or sunburn can sensitize the area and can adversely affect treatment effectiveness. We recommend using a strong sun block that is effective against both UVA and UVB light. Depending on your individual skin type and treatment, we will provide you with sun exposure guidelines. You can still enjoy being outdoors.

Second, the area to be treated must be shaved free of all hair. Shave the desired treatment area(when possible) the night before laser treatment.

And third, the treatment area should be absolutely clean of any lotions, creams, makeup, sun block, perfume or any other chemicals or skincare products. This may cause allergic reaction or reduce the efficacy of a treatment. Avoid irritants such as products containing glycolic acid or Retin-A in the area for 5-7 days prior treatment.

The Procedure

We will ask you a few questions about your medical status, each time you come in. This may seem repetitive, but it’s necessary to make sure nothing has changed regarding medications taken, sun exposure, possible pregnancy, etc., that can affect the treatment outcome.

Our Laser Specialist will apply a cool, anesthetic gel to the treatment area to help ensure optimum skin contact and proper cooling of the outer skin layer, for maximum effectiveness. Your laserologist will then systematically treat the area. The sensation is similar to a rubber band being snapped, or a hot pinch on the skin. For most patients, the pinching sensation goes away nearly instantaneously.

Post-Treatment

After your treatment, you may experience some redness or pinkness in the treated area. This is normal and should subside within a day. Although rare, pinkness, redness, minor blistering or persistent pain may occur. If this is the case, you should contact Phoenix Rising immediately.

After your treatment, please do not wash with hot water on freshly treated areas. Use tepid water instead.

Hair will continue to grow after your treatment. Some of these hairs that are treated during a laser therapy session will gradually work themselves out. This is referred to as the “shedding process” which should occur between 3 to 14 days after treatment, and some are from dormant follicles entering their active phase after the treatment. To achieve the maximum possible hair reduction, it is necessary to follow the full Phoenix Rising Laser Protocol. We ask that you use adequate sun block if the treated area is to be exposed to the sun. Also, avoid irritants such as products containing glycolic acid or Retin-A in the area for 5-7 days after treatment.
